PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, Ith Samheng, has stated that the party, state and people of Vietnam always pay attention to maintaining friendship, solidarity and sympathy with Cambodia. He recalled that the friendship between the two countries has lasted since the time of the struggle for independence from France, and the rescue of the Cambodian people from the Khmer Rouge regime, continuing on until today.

A reception was held for members of the Party Central Committee and the Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Pham Tat Thang, at the Phnom Penh Hotel on Wednesday evening, 10 August. Addressing the reception, Minister Ith Samheng, Member of the Central Committee of the CPP, Vice-Chairman of the People's Movement Committee and Chairman of the Union Movement and Workers' Movement in Factories, Enterprises and Institutions, said on behalf of the CPP, Royal Government and Cambodian people that he would like to thank the party, state and people of Vietnam for always taking care to maintain ties of friendship, solidarity and sympathy in all circumstances with Cambodia, since the colonial era to the establishment of peace in both countries, and most recently, during the Covid-19 crisis.

"Both countries are very proud of the good relations and cooperation between the People's Movement of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the People's Movement of the Cambodian People's Party," he said. "Making good progress in the cooperation between the ruling party and the people of our two countries, in line with the motto of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability."

Cambodia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on 24 June 1967, thus far lasting 55 years. Relations between the two countries have historically been interdependent, with Cambodia helping Vietnam to reunite its country on 30 April 1975, while in late 1978, Vietnam sent volunteer troops to join the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation to overthrow the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, enabling Cambodia to guarantee the right to life and acting as the starting point for national development to this day.
